A "Little Thing" in "5/4"
(Transcription & Arrangement)
the videoBased on the notoriously bad, mind-numbing, yet hilarious Expert Village video (ORIGINAL here).
In the video, music "expert" and breakdancer, Austin McBride, demonstrates how to think and play music within a 5/4 meter. ...Or at least, that's what he claims he's about to do. Just watch the video. (The one to the right is my edited version, with my transcription embedded on top — as well as some melodica filling out the instrumentation.) Then continue on to the PDF score, below. |

my response: try to make sense of it
In an exercise of utter futility, I set out to sort out the mathematical and musical madness Mr. McBride put forth in his video.
A few remarks on that:
1) This proved to be a rather tough task. Since everything the dude plays/says is so wrong, it was not a fun time trying to put it on paper.
2) I realize I could have chosen NOT to do this. There are other, saner, more productive ways to spend time, after all. Sure, but it entertained me, and now perhaps it will entertain you.
3) Reading the scores that I produced (below) whilst listening to the video is exactly what you should do right now. Seeing the notated nonsense at the same time as hearing the nonsense is all at once maddening, perplexing, and hilarious.
